Acrylic Nail Tips

Learn how to apply your own acrylic nail tips.

These days, acrylic tips, when done properly and professionally, it can be hard to tell the difference between the tips, and your natural fingernails.

Many prefer to apply acrylic nails themselves.

Most acrylic fingernails come in natural colors such as; peach, ivory and a natural pink. You can also purchase them pre colored in your favorite colors, or buy them with a French manicure look.

There are many different designs to choose from, and they are as popular today, as they were in the 60's.

acrylic tips Apply Acrylic Nails
  • First have some paper towel on hand.

  • If you have nail polish on, remove with nail polish remover, and make sure there are no traces of polish still on your fingernails. Give your hands a good wash with soap and water and gently push back cuticles with an orange stick.

  • If you don't have any nail polish on, wipe with nail polish remover anyway to help remove any traces of oil, wash hands with soap and water.

  • File so your nail is even with the tip of your finger; this is a good length to help support the acrylic nail tips. Give them a gentle buff, this will help the resin adhere to your natural nail and acrylic tips.

  • Lay out all the nails tips in front of you. Make sure each of the tips do not cover too much of your own fingernail; they must sit close to the cuticle, not under or over it and, the rounded end is toward the cuticle.

  • Having them all laid out in front of you will make it easier when gluing them on, usually there will be a number on the bottom of the tip so you can use the ones for the same finger on the other hand.

  • If the tips do not fit properly, your nail will look uneven and very unprofessional.

  • When you have found the right acrylic tips to use, you may need to gently file and shape the cuticle end of the nail so it fits properly.

  • It may be easier to begin with the right hand if you are right handed and other way round if you are left handed, starting with the little finger first is usually the best finger to start with.

Apply a small amount of glue and gently press the corresponding nail tip to your finger holding for 10 seconds, if there is any glue seeping out from the sides, quickly wipe with paper towel.

  • Now, do the other fingers remembering to quickly wipe away any excess glue.

  • Once you are finished you will want to test your new nails. Give each one a gentle twist to make sure they have adhered properly to your natural fingernail, if one comes loose re glue it.

apply acrylic nails

You can cut your acrylic fingernails with nail clippers to the desired length, yet I would recommend filing them as they are quite hard and likely to crack if cut.

If you want to cut your acrylic nail tips do so with a "false fingernails cutter", which is specifically designed to cut and shape the acrylic nails tips to a perfect shape.

When finished, put on a coat of nail strengthener then apply your favorite nail polish color, then put on a top coat to protect the polish and give a shine.

The best part about being able to apply them yourself, you are always ready for that special night out, saving you time and money.

When you are applying acrylic nails yourself, be very careful they are fitted to your natural fingernail properly, if one lifts off, glue it back down immediately. If moisture gets in, you have a very good chance of getting fingernail fungus.

Good luck with your tips, and remember to take your time and practice makes perfect.
