Brittle Toenails

Causes Of Brittle Nails

Brittle toenails can happen for many reasons.

Usually the elderly will suffer from brittle toe nails and fingernails. Nails will change in texture and color, menopause is also time for many nail changes.

Of course, we all know having a healthy diet is the key to having shiny hair, a beautiful complexion and healthy nails.

Your body needs the right amount of vitamins, minerals and proteins.

If you don't eat right, you won't feel right!

Many people will take calcium supplements to help with brittle, weak toenails and fingernails.

causes of brittle toenails If you are doing this, you may notice there is not much of a change in your nails strength. I took calcium supplements for years, before I realized they were doing no good.

The trick is to include a vitamin D supplement with the calcium, to help with absorption. You can buy calcium with vitamin D included.

Sometimes an over active or under active thyroid, can cause brittle toe nails.

Other causes of brittle, weak nails is dehydration. This is probably one of the most common reasons. You need to drink plenty of water every day. I drink two glasses of water first thing in the morning. This is a great way to start the day and you will see a difference with your hair, skin and nails.

In some cases brittle toe nails can be caused from having poor oxygen supply, people who suffer from asthma may notice they often have problems with their nails. Maybe you are just not breathing properly?

Toenails that are brittle and crumble easily, can sometimes be the result of poor blood circulation, people who suffer from diabetes may have this problem too

Toenails which are brittle, are more susceptible to breaking, cracking and tearing easily.

Toenails can become brittle from overuse of nail polish, and nail polish remover containing acetone.

I make it a point to always use natural, organic nail polish without all the chemicals.

Fungus under toenails, will cause them to become brittle, thicker and discolored.

You can easily fix a cracked or broken toenail with glue, until a new nail grows out, or, you can have fake toenails applied if you have a special night out planned, and want to wear a pair of sexy open toed shoes.

If you continually have a brittle toe nails, take a look at your diet, and try to include the right foods and supplements.

At least once a week, massage your toes with a thick moisturizing cream.

A terrible habit some people have is biting toenails, which can cause brittle toenails.
