- Using a nail file, gently smooth the fingernail you have just repaired using the rough side of the board.
- Apply a coat of nail strengthener.
- When dry, apply your favourite nail polish.
- You can also apply a tiny piece of tissue paper over the glue. If you have no glue on hand use top coat or clear polish.
If the tear to your nail is rather large, you can fix with a trusty teabag, which you probably have in the cupboard already.
- First get your tea bag and cut it open letting all the loose tea out.
- Cut a small piece of the tea bag and position it over your broken fingernail, cut to fit your nail. Make sure you cover the entire fingernail and not just where the tear/break is.
- Cover the entire patch with glue, spread with a toothpick.
- Allow to dry.
- Using nail scissors, trim any of the patch that maybe hanging over your fingernail.
- File the top of your fingernail and gently buff the top of your nail where patch is.
- Cover entire fingernail with your favourite nail polish, clear varnish or nail strengthener, allow to completely dry.
- As your fingernail grows, file and eventually the break will grow out leaving you with beautiful fingernails.
- Don't use nail polish remover on the fingernail with tea bag patch on!
Using fiberglass is another option. Fiberglass is mainly used for fake nails, and can be used to help repair cracked, split or damaged fingernails. - Cut a piece of fiberglass to cover over the split, do not cover the entire fingernail.
- Apply glue over the strip of fiberglass, be careful you do not put too much glue on, just do it a little at a time. If you have not got it right you can remove with nail polish remover and start again.
- Once on, allow drying completely and then gently buff the top of your nail until smooth.
- Put on a base coat and your favourite nail polish, or clear polish.
