Recognise Fingernail Abnormalities
A person may experience one or more types of fingernail abnormalities, in his or her lifetime.
Finger nail abnormalities, are especially common as you age. These can range anywhere from being brittle, soft, weak, thin, white spots and ridges. I had a problem with one of my thumb nails, every time it would get to a certain length, it would split down one side. It did this for months.
Other abnormalities may be the color, thickness and shape of the nail.It is not only aging, which can bring on an abnormality of the nails. Many health problems and severe illness, can certainly affect the appearance of them, causing indentations, white or dark lines and clubbed looking nails. Many times, it can be a superficial problem, such as vertical ridges and splitting. These can easily be fixed, with a healthy diet and the right vitamin supplements. I was constantly battling with abnormalities, it was always a struggle for me to have nails which were strong. If you are unwell, you will usually present complications with your health, prior to your nails showing signs. Especially, if you are suffering from things like, cancer, and an impaired immune system, poor circulation, kidney or liver disease. In return, your nails, will show you signs of your body being unwell, and not in balance. Abnormalities such as nails turning blue, can be due to lack of oxygen. In cases like this, you are better off going to the doctor. An injury to the fingernails and poor eating habits, are common grounds for a finger nail abnormality. Children And Nail Abnormalities Even children are not immune to having problems of the nails. Some can disappear as they grow older, and some do require medical attention. Children can suffer from white spots, brittle, especially on the thumb nail, (this can result from thumb sucking), beau's lines and pitting. Sometimes, an irregularity like spoon nails, can be hereditary, and a child can display these nails at a very early age. Most problems can be overcome, unless you are in severe pain, or continually suffering from some kind of irregularity, then you would be best to have it checked by a doctor. Abnormalities of fingernails can be due to fingernail fungus. This can result in thickening, and discolor of the nail, in very advanced cases, you can loose the nail altogether. There are some signs which should not be ignored, such as; an abnormal shape of the fingernails, sunken nails, tenderness or dark streaks in the fingernail. In these instances, you are best to seek a doctors opinion. Finger nail abnormalities and treatment, is usually just a case of having a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water and massaging your nails every day with a hand cream or oil.
