How Is Your Fingernail Health

Easy ways to improve your nails and health

Learn about your fingernail health, and how to have the nails health you have always wanted.

You nails and health go hand in hand.

The most important thing you can do for your fingernail health is to include the right foods, supplements and nail care.

Your fingernails are dependent on a good intake of vitamins and minerals, which are needed to help keep them strong and prevent problems from happening.

The pink color of the fingernail indicates a healthy circulatory system, if they have a bluish tint, then you may be suffering from poor circulation.

Anemia is consistent with low red blood cells, and this may make the fingernails appear pale with a whitish nail bed.

There are many wonderful foods and vitamins for fingernails you can include in your diet, to help maintain strong nails, and a healthy body.

With the right care, growing long fingernails can be achieved, and soft nails can be avoided.

Make sure you rub sunscreen into your fingernails as well as your hands, this is a good habit to get into. Do this daily and help improve your fingernail care.

Parts of fingernails;

  • Matrix - this is the living part, and is found behind and underneath the nail fold. It produces keratin and makes up the Nail Plate. If you damage the matrix, you will affect growth.

  • Nail Plate - this is the top hard part you want looking great, as this shows the first sign of whether you have good fingernail health or not! It is made up of layers of protein keratin. Many people will suffer from split nails to this area.

  • Nail Folds - hard skin around the base and side of nail plate.

  • Fingernail Bed - skin beneath the nail plate and is responsible for the blood vessels and cells, which gives the pinkish color, and determines what shape your nail will grow. Your fingernail bed has little grooves, which can become more noticeable as you get older, causing vertical ridges on fingernails.

  • Cuticle - tissue around your nail plate, it protects new cells that emerge from the fingernail bed, and help protect your nails from infection, which is why good cuticle care is important. It is also a good idea to keep your cuticles well moisturized to prevent damaged cuticles.

  • Lunula - (half moon) is the shape at the base of your fingernails, this is underneath the nail plate, and often fades with age (like everything!!), it also tends to show up only on larger nails.

There are some great oils you can use, not only in your diet, they can be used on your nails to help prevent hang nails.

Oils such as olive oil, sunflower oil and coconut oil, are great for soaking and rubbing into your fingernails and cuticles, to help prevent dry fingernails.

This is a great way to help promote strong fingernails.

Many fingernail conditions can be overcome with a good oil, and cracked nails can be fixed using Shea butter.

It pays from time to time, especially as you are getting older to have your doctor check your fingernails and health, especially if you have a recurring health problem.

Over time you will suffer less problems and have a healthy body, all because you have a natural nail care and skin care regime.

Your nails health compliments your appearance.

When you see and feel a difference, you will always find time to take care for and prevent future issues like broken fingernails
