Hang Nails Problem
Hang nails are very annoying, with many suffering from them at some stage.
They are small strips of skin, that separate from the cuticle, and are not actually a part of the nail. They appear on the sides, or base of the nail. They catch on everything, your hair, clothes, and when this happens you are reminded of their very existence, unless of course you have one which is painful. Hangnails are particularly common with people who have their hands in water a lot. It is the constant wetting and drying which causes your fingernails to dry out, and small strips of dead skin separate from around the fingernails.
Enjoying the hot summer days down at the local pool, can cause this nail problem as chlorine can dry out your fingernails. To prevent pain, don't ever pull a hang nail off. You are ripping your skin off, and this can lead to infection, and can cause bleeding. There are many ways to help heal and prevent them. Hangnails Removal And Prevention - The easiest and best way to remover one, is using a cuticle nipper. It is designed especially for being able to get to small areas, and is perfect for removing hangnails.
- Using nail clippers, try and clip off, as soon as you notice one. Don't pick it off.
- To make removal easier, soak in warm, soapy water for a few minutes, until it is soft and easier to cut off.
- If it is very painful, once removed, apply a small amount of antibacterial cream and a band aid.
- Prick a vitamin E capsule and squeeze on and massage.
- Massage them with your lip balm. Lately I have been using my paw paw lip balm, and it works wonders, in fact, I highly recommend it.
- Do not cut your cuticles.
- Don't bite them off, this can cause infection.
- Massage cuticles daily.
Hangnails can be minor until they become infected, if you are taking the precautions as outlined above, you should be able to prevent one from happening again. If you have any hangnails which are red, or perhaps looks like there might be pus, try soaking in antiseptic solution. If symptoms persist after a few days, you may need to seek medical attention.
