Ingrown Toenail Treatment

Home Treatment Of Ingrown Toenail

An ingrown toenail treatment can also be applied to ingrown fingernails.

You can do your own treatment ingrown toenail, unless you have an infection and it is very severe, then you may have to resort to medical treatment.

Ingrown toenail is far more common than ingrown fingernails and you will usually have this nail problem on your big toenail.

How an ingrown toenail begins, the toenail curves down and grows into the skin at the sides of the toenail. When the nail digs into the skin, it can feel warm, become painful, causing redness and swelling.

When this happens, you need to be careful bacteria does not get in, causing an infection. If your toe does become infected, it can cause a foul smell.

If you are not experiencing any pain or swelling, be careful as any toenail which curves downward into the skin is an infection waiting to happen!

ingrown toenail An ingrown toenail treatment is painless and very important to help prevent future toenail problems.

There are many reasons why you may suffer from an ingrown toenail.

One of them can be heredity.

Trimming toenails too short and wearing shoes too tight.

An ingrown toenail treatment will help prevent them in the future.

Always trim your toenail straight across, do not cut or file the toenail down at the sides.

You can buy toenail clippers, which will cut your nail correctly.

Treatment Ingrown Toenail

  • Soak your toenail in warm water for about 20 minutes, with Baking Soda, salt or Epsom salts, you can also soak in warm soapy water, using an antibacterial soap is best. When finished soaking, rinse your foot with cool water and pat dry.

Salts and antibacterial soap will help clean and prevent an ingrown toenail infection.

  • Once the skin around the toenail is softened, you then need to gently trim the toenail so it is no longer digging into the skin, be careful you don't trim too far back, you will allow bacteria to enter.

  • When finished, apply a few drops of tea tree oil, it is a natural antiseptic and will help with the healing process. Tea tree oil is a wonderful oil to use, I have had much success with this oil for fingernail fungus and toenail fungus.

  • It is best to apply a bandage to the toe and repeat the process for a few days, until the toenail is cured.

  • Another effective treatment of ingrown toenail is to first soak you nail as per instructions above, and when finished, cut a small v into the middle of the toenail.

Doing it this way for me was the answer and I never had another ingrown toenail again. Cut a small v into the nail every time you cut your nails, this helps stop the nail from growing into the side of your toe.

Contrary to what you may read about, this home treatment for ingrown toenails can help. Cutting a small v into the nail was very effective for me.

For an ingrown toenail treatment to be effective, make sure you wear well fitted shoes and socks.
