Fix Your Peeling Fingernails

Peeling fingernails is something which happens, to a lot of people. It is quite a common problem, and one many people search for remedies.

The medical term for peeling nails is onycholysis.

There are many reasons, for why your nails are always peeling. And most often, it is associated with nails which are always breaking and splitting.

Causes For Peeling Nails

Having hands in water often, is a major culprit.

The chemicals in cleaning products you are using, can affect your nails, by drying them out.

A poor diet, is always going to give you this problem, and many others. Which is why every where you turn these days, eating healthy is being preached.

Environmental factors, the weather can cause peeling too. No matter what the weather, if it is too hot or too cold, either way, can dry out the natural oils of your nails, causing them to dry out, split and peel.

Yeast infections and people who suffer from psoriasis.

Long term wearing of artificial nails.

Some medications can deplete the body of nutrients, and this in turn will affect your nails.

You may be tempted to put on nail hardeners, this is not a good idea either as you are contributing to the problem.

Remedies For Peeling

You need to keep your fingernails hydrated, so it is important to massage them daily with a good natural cream.

Using a natural cream is best, if you are constantly massaging a cream into your hands and fingernails with chemicals in it, you will dry out your hands and nails. Then you are back to where you started, looking for a remedy.

If you don't have a good hand cream on hand, just grab an oil from the kitchen cupboard.

Check out article on strong fingernails, I discuss some of the oils you can use to help with your fingernail health, strength and overcome peeling finger nails.

A lack of moisture is the most common problem, and easy to fix.

Don't buff your fingernails too much, a gentle buff once a month is good, if you over use a buffer you can thin your nails and considering they are probably quite thin anyway, you don't want to increase the problem.

Stay away from nail polish, and if you can't help yourself, at least try and limit its use. Always remove polish with one which does not contain acetone.

If you feel your diet is lacking in certain vitamins and minerals, a silica supplement is a great mineral to take not only for your nails, it will do wonders for your hair and complexion as well.

Eat more protein foods and drink lots of water.

Peeling finger nails don't have to be a constant problem.

It only takes a few min a day to help your nails become stronger, and stop peeling.
