All About The Shellac Manicure

A shellac manicure can last up to 14 days, and is considered one of the best types of manicures you can have done.

Unlike doing a self manicure, shellac manicures do need to be done by a professional at a nail salon.

A shellac does cost more, compared to other types of manicures.

Although, the benefit to this type of manicure is, it won't ruin your nails like acrylics or gel nails. It is considered a much safer and healthier alternative.

A manicure like the Shellac usually takes about an hour at a salon compared to the French manicure, which can take about 2 hours.

The manicures are done using shellac nail polish which is a cross between nail polish and gel. Basically, it is having a nail polish applied which dries like a gel.

This type of nail polish is sold to professional salons only.

After each coat of polish is applied to your fingernails, you dry them under a UV lamp, and your nails are dry as soon as you remove them.

The procedure involves a base coat, two coats of color and a shiny gloss top coat.

There is no waiting around for the shellac nail polish to dry, and no fear of smudging your shellac manicure, while looking for your car keys in your bag once you are finished.

In fact you will not experience chips, scratches and smudging of the nail polish.

You will have shiny nails, for the two weeks the manicure lasts.

It is supposedly able to help strengthen weak fingernails, by giving them a resilient, strong coating.

It is recommended you go back to the salon to have the shellac polish removed, yet you can remove the polish from home, which is very similar to how you would remove acrylic nails.

First soak cotton balls in acetone nail polish remover and place the soaked balls onto your nails, wrap silver foil around the tops of each finger to help hold the cotton ball in place. shellac manicures

Keep it on for around 20 minutes, once you remove the cotton balls and the polish is off your fingernails, massage your nails with an oil to help keep them moisturized.

If you don't, the tips of your nails will dry out and possibly flake. The acetone in the remover is very drying.

Massaging olive oil or pricking a vitamin E capsule and rubbing into your fingernails will do the trick, solar oil is another good one to use, it is also good for dry fingernails.

The colors of the shellac polish range is still growing.

The shellac is certainly gaining in popularity. These two pics are of my friends nails, she loves having this done, and is always raving about how good it is.
