How To Treat Split Toe Nails
Splitting toenails may result from an injury, to the toenails or may be health reasons.
You can suffer from a horizontal split down the middle of the toenail, or multiple splits. Ridges on the nail may also cause splitting. Many people will experience a split toe nail from dropping something onto the nails, or stubbing it against something hard. People who enjoy doing a lot of physical activity, or have their feet frequently in water, may also have their fair share of split toenails. Other reasons for split toenails can be the result of a low thyroid, poor circulation or poor diet. Include vitamins to help like, omega 3, biotin and silica. And don't forget aging, as you grow older, many things go wrong with your body, and your nails are no exception. They do tend to be brittle and split a lot more easily. Constant wearing of nail polish, and repeatedly removing the nail polish with remover will result in causing your nails to split. Wearing shoes too small, too tight or too high. Sometimes, an infection under the nail will cause it to split. Someone stepping on your toe. Nails too long and dry. In some cases, it has been found, people taking oral medications, made from vitamin A, will cause this problem. If your split toenail is continually hitting against the toe area of your shoe, you may find, as the nail is growing it continues to split. If you enjoy running, you could try wearing two pairs of thick socks to help prevent this problem.Don't allow your toenails to grow too long, constant pressure against your shoes weakens the sides of the nails, and this can cause splitting. If the problem persists, you may consider visiting a podiatrist. Some people may find they have grown up with a splitting toenail all their lives, and it in fact, it probably runs in the family. This may be a genetic problem, and could be very hard to overcome. You could visit a salon, and have them put on a very thin overlay, to help keep any splitting toenails in place.
