Toenail Care
Promotes Healthy Toenails

Toenail care is just as important as your fingernail care, and toenails can often be overlooked.

By having good toenail health, you will prevent any nail problems from happening in the future, and help alleviate any toenail problems you may have now!

Your toenails are often the first place you will notice any problems. If blood is not circulating properly within your body, you may notice nail problems such as bumps on the nail, an increase in thickness and many other problems.

These days many women will have fake toenails applied to their nails, to hide unslightly toenails and problems.

toenail growth Your toenails are made up of the same protein (keratin) as your fingernails; this protein is also found in your hair and skin.

Keratin can be hard like your nails or soft like your skin.

Toenails are also made up of the same components as your fingernails.

Parts of Toenails

  • Nail plate - the top hard part you want looking its best, it is usually the first sign of whether you have good toenail health and good toenail growth. This part is made up of layers of the protein keratin.

  • Matrix - is found behind the nail fold and produces the protein keratin and makes up the nail plate.

  • Nail Folds - the hard skin around the side and base of the nail plate.

  • Toenail Bed - this part of the nail is responsible for the blood vessels and cells. It gives your nail its lovely pink color! If you have good toenail health that is.

  • Cuticle - protects new cells which grow from the nail bed, and is the tissue around your nail plate.

  • Lunula - (half moon) found at the base of your toenails underneath the nail plate.

Healthy toenails are a lovely pink color and free of dirt, and looking out for any nail abnormalities, will ensure you are always happy and healthy.

If you don't have good toenail health it is very easy to have problems such as a nail disease, and poor toenail growth.

Toenail Health

After bathing or swimming you need to dry your feet thoroughly, this will help prevent many problems such as Athlete's foot and fungus.

To help soften rough skin, soak your feet at least once a week in Epsom salts and dry properly when finished. This is just one way to help give you pretty toenails.

Always trim your toenails with nail clippers or nail scissors and cut the toenail straight across. Do not cut down the sides of the nail as doing this can cause ingrown toenails.

It is best to have toenails cut to the length of the toe and not cut too short.

Invest in a good cuticle moisturizer for your toenail growth and the same can be used for your fingernails.

Your fingernail health and toenail health go together.

Many people enjoy having a pedicure to keep their toes looking fabulous.

A French pedicure is quite popular for many woman. If you have a busy lifestyle, you can easily learn how to do a pedicure yourself.

Toenail growth
Can take anywhere between 12 to 18 months and is also dependent on gender, age (they grow slower as you get older), hereditary factors and diet.

Your fingernails and toenails growth is faster in the summer time.

It is extremely important to have healthy fingernails and toenails, not only to help prevent any nail problems, healthy nails also say a lot about you!

Healthy painted toenails look great in a pair of open toed shoes in the summer months, instead of trying to hide them all the time.

It only takes a few minutes once a week to achieve great toenail care.

Have good toenail care and fingernail care and you will have good health!
