Toenail Disease

Information On Toenail Diseases

A toenail disease can easily take over, and give you stress and pain.

Toe nail disease can be caused from a bacteria infection or nail fungus. A bacteria infection, can also lead to nail fungus.

You can quite easily cure your own nail diseases with home remedies, and keeping your nails clean and the skin around the toe nail clean and dry.

If you enjoy swimming in a public pool, always wear thongs when using the public showers after your swim, and put them on as soon as you get out of the pool. Many a disease can be caught at the local swimming pool center.

toenail disease The most common form of toenail diseases is fungus. There are actually three types of fungus you can be infected with.

The first one, and the most common is distal/lateral Subungal Onychomycosis. This is where the fungus affects the tip of your nail, and spreads downwards. This is the one I had on my middle finger, and both big toenails.

The second one is Proximal Subungal Onychomycosis, where is will start at the nail fold, the end of your nail, and will then spread towards the nail tip.

The third is White Superficial Onychomycosis, and will form white spots on the nail surface. This is quite superficial compared to the other two types of fungus.

A bacterial infection can start of along the edge of your toenail, and can become red and inflamed, and if left untreated can become very severe, in extreme cases you can loose your toenail.

A nail infection is called Paronychia, this is where bacteria has entered through a cut or tear around the toenail.

Other signs of a toe nail disease is swelling and maybe pus. Although it depends on the level of infection, if you have pus or not.

You can help prevent any discomfort and relief yourself.

Gently cut your toenail straight across, wash your feet in warm water with an antiseptic soap, pat dry and apply an antiseptic cream and cover with a band aid.

Leave for a day, and then repeat the process.

Any type of diseases affecting your nails, can be distressing, and treatment, needs to be immediate.

If you enjoy running, or any other type of excessive sport, always remove your runners and socks immediately after, to help prevent any problems.

If your toe nail disease is fungus, the earlier the treatment the better, to help prevent it from spreading and causing you pain and distress later on. Fungus can spread very quickly, so you do need to be careful.
