Toenails Falling Off

Information On Toenail Loss

Toenails falling off can usually be due to two things, an injury and fungus.

If your toenail fell off because of running, or some other strenuous sport, it will just grow back in time.

Poor circulation, or a very advanced stage of nail fungus, can cause a toe nail falling off.

If you are constantly on your feet, such as waitressing or working in a department store, you may find toe nail problems happening, especially, if you are not wearing good fitting shoes.

Toenail removal by local anaesthetic may sometimes be recommended, if the nail looks as though it is a very severe ingrown toenail, or the nail has become very thick, curved and is painful.

In many cases you can help heal your nail yourself.

Having a toenail loss is a minor nail problem, and a new nail in time will grow back.

Sometimes having a blister under the toenail may cause the nail to eventually fall off. Prick the blister and drain the fluid from inside, put some antiseptic cream on it and just leave it alone. You will probably lose the nail, as this happened to me and the toe nail did fall off.

A black nail, is often a nail which is bruised.

Sometimes, it may cause toenail loss.

If a toe nail looks like it is about to fall off, don't pull it off ever.

This may cause damage to all the little veins and vessels under your toenail, and bleeding. If the nail is still attached to the skin at the base of the nail, leave it alone.

Nothing bad will happen, it will just fall off in its own time, usually when the new nail starts to grow out.

If the nail is catching on your socks, gently try and cut it back, and put a band aid on it.

If it looks as though there may be an infection happening, soak your toe in warm water and beta dine solution daily, or soak your nail in an Epsom salt solution.

Toenail loss is nothing to be concerned about, your nail will grow back in as good condition as the previous nail.

Toenails falling off would only be a concern if it was happening on a regular basis.
