Yellow Toenail
Do you dread showing off your feet, because of a yellow toenail?
Would you love to have a pedicure, but afraid to let them see the color yellow on your nails? Some causes of a yellow nail can be simple, and some cases can be quite serious. If you have thick yellow toenails, then there is a pretty good chance fungus is the problem. Perhaps you are continually wearing nail polish on your toenails, hence the yellow nails. If you love wearing dark colors on your toenails without a base coat, overtime this can cause a yellow toe nails. A condition known as 'yellow nail syndrome' will cause nails to turn yellow. It is unknown what exactly causes this condition. It can be caused from a weakened immune system, people who suffer from cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and other health problems concerning the lungs. This type of disease will affect your toenails more often than your fingernails, and is sometimes very hard to diagnose. The nails grow very slowly, and will be loose and detach from the nail bed, and you will have no cuticles. Another symptom with this type of disease is swelling of parts of the body, caused from lymphatic drainage problems. Vitamin E benefits have proven to be helpful with this type of condition, also using vitamin e as a topical treatment, and zinc supplements are sometimes prescribed, although there is no known evidence this helps. Sometimes fluconazole or itraconazole are used as a treatment. These are oral antifungal medication, and it been noted they can help increase nail growth, which can help with yellow nail syndrome. If you suspect nail fungus, don't put nail polish on, this will make your condition worse. Allow the nail to breathe, and treat it with a toenail fungus remedy, or have it checked out by a doctor. Until you discover if you have nail fungus or not, don't be tempted to file your nails as this can cause it to spread to other nails. If you are fortunate to only have the problem in one or two nails, try to keep it that way. Quite often thick yellow toenails will have muck under the nail, and you should be able to see it. If your nails are yellow from constantly wearing nail polish, then it will be easy to bring them back to their normal color. If you are unsure, get it checked out by a doctor. It is too easy to do your own self diagnosis, and many times you can get it wrong.
